Managing Partner Harini Building Blocks

Ours is a construction company started by my father 30 years ago. After realizing the need of consistency in raw materials, we started RMC plant 15 years ago. Further, as a part of backward integration, we planned to expand by venturing into Concrete Products manufacturing in the year 2018. We met Columbia’s representative at one of the tradeshows in South India. We were in discussion with two other manufacturers as well. However after more than a year’s discussion with Columbia, getting to know the machine and and completing all the necessary procedures and formalities we finally decided in 2020 to buy Columbia’s Model SPM 20 Machine. However, covid and the lockdown hit us hard and we could only start by mid of 2021. The installation and commissioning were done so swiftly by Columbia even during the travel restrictions. The entire team would constantly keep in touch with me. We started manufacturing Solid blocks, flyash bricks and paver blocks and currently enjoying production of all value added premium products.

Tirupati is a very small market and there may not be major changes in buying pattern of the buyers for the next few years. Hence, we shall stick to our current manufacturing plans. Our only expectations from Columbia is centralized spare support, economical spare prices and better supply chain, however I would always recommend Columbia Machines over others, no second thought over it.

Columbia contributes to the infrastructure growth of India

In the year 1999, the Government of India started the construction of Golden Quadrilateral, connecting all the major metros. As a part of this project, highways connecting Mumbai - Delhi, Delhi - Kolkata, Kolkata - Chennai and Chennai - Mumbai got converted to 4 lanes in place of the existing 2 lanes. This led to the construction of retaining walls for the approach to flyovers at the intersection of roads. Initially, these retaining walls were earth made with natural slopes. Later it got converted to cast-at-site concrete walls made of precast reinforced concrete panels. Both these technologies resulted in huge costs due to steel involved in the construction which resulted in the high cost of construction and a lengthy erection/ casting process. Later soil stabilizing solution providers in technology tie-ups with international companies started developing segmental retaining wall blocks for Retaining Walls. These blocks do not require steel due to the design and quality of the machine used for casting process.

Soon Golden Quadrilateral was converted to 6-lane highways, which led to the widening of existing roads, construction of parallel roads, by-passes and express highways. At several towns and settlements, these highways had intersections, which led to the construction of flyovers. Most of these retaining walls were made of state of art segmental retaining wall blocks. Columbia being the pioneer in the construction of RW Blocks have sold several machines to contractors, sub-contractors and soil stabilizing companies for casting blocks.

The largest manufacturer of retaining walls in India, takes pride in owning 9 Columbia Machines. Reputed contractors also deploy their fleet of Columbia Machines in their prestigious NHAI projects. High strength, dimensional accuracy and better finish are the salient features of RW Blocks made on Columbia Machines. This resulted in lower costs and timely completion of projects. Have a look at some of the images of completed/ under-construction projects that used RW Blocks made on Columbia machines at various sites in India.

DO YOU KNOW

Our skin is the largest organ of body and since it is porous, it absorbs whatever you put on it. The average person uses 12 personal care products each day, exposing themselves to 126 ingredients in total. It takes only 26 seconds for what you apply to your skin to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Hence be mindful to whatever you consume or apply all over the body including your hair.  Start by choosing green and clean alternatives for anything you soak or wash in as it has the highest exposure to your entire body. Best to go natural, for anything you apply and do not wash off, such as lotion, face and body creams, balms and oils as they have all day to soak in.  Do not forget the eyeliners, lipsticks, nail polish and everyday make-up used as these are easily ignored by many. Learn to read and understand ingredient labels. Finally, remember stress is our enemy and there is a reason, why it is called a beauty sleep!
